These people are very simple and believe and worship their local deities. Though the tribal people are mostly non vegetarians and there food include the stuff gathered from forests. The non-tribal people are mostly vegetarians. The dresses they wear are very simple and all of the different tribes have a sense of similarity in their clothing. The females wear simple saris and blouse and men wear dhotis. The non-tribal ladies also prefer to dress in simple saris or salwar kameez and the men prefer dhotis , but the younger lot prefer to wear pant and shirts or these days jeans. The most famous Bastar Dussherra is celebrated by everyone in the city forgetting about caste, religion or creed. They celebrate their festival singing their traditional hymns and songs. The traditional art and handicraft of Jagdalpur is worth appreciation. The art and craft is not limited to few crafts, they excel in number of art and craft like bell metal work, wooden craft, silk sarees etc.Influence of Western Culture on Jagdalpur
Jagdalpur is majorly inhabited by the tribal people, who are untouched with the outside world. The culture of Jagdalpur is hence highly influenced by the tribal culture. But with the increasing westernization, Jagdalpur is no exception. The non tribal people are getting the taste of western culture and are gradually bending toward it. The dressing style is gradually shifting towards the western dressing. The women specially the young generation is largely seen wearing jeans and other modern outfits and the same goes for the men in Jagdalpur.
The eating habits are also getting influenced by the western culture. The younger people are largely dependent on continental, Chinese, Italian and other western food. They relish this food to the limits that the outlet for the fast foods can be now easily found in Jagdalpur. But this influence is limited to only a small portion of the population as the large population is still under the influence of age old traditional and tribal culture.
