Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh is a beautiful city amidst green mountains, thick forests, waterfalls, caves, valleys, streams, natural resources and abundance of green beauty. Jagdalpur located in Bastar district of Chattisgarh is governed by Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation and is the administrative headquarters of both Bastar district and Bastar division. It was once part of princely state of Bastar. Two steel plants are being built by NMDC and Tata Steel Plant near Jagdalpur. Hence there is lot of scope for the development in the city.

About Jagdalpur

Jagdalpur has a long and interesting history. It is believed to be the home of Valmiki ashrams. Jagdalpur has seen the rule of various kings. It also witnessed glorious past of many Indian kingdoms like Chalukyas, Kakatiyas and the Nals. In around 1424 AD the city was ruled by the great Kakatiya king Pratap Rudra's brother, Annama Deva, who left Warangal, Andhra Pradesh and set up his kingdom here. Jagdalpur also witnessed hundreds of year of royal rule, battles, wars and then conquering of kingdoms, conspiracies etc. Several rulers that ruled this state were Pratap Raj Deo, Hamir Deo, Dalpat Deo and many others. During Bristish rule there were several clashes to take over the throne of Jagdalpur. There was an attack by tribals in 1910. Located at 19.07°N 82.03°E, Jagdalpur is located at a height of 552 metres (1811 feet). It lies on the south banks of Indravati River. Jagdalpur is a mix of various geographic features. Events and Festivals in Jagdalpur

People of Jagdalpur celebrates every festival and event with great enthusiasm and zeal. Bastar Dussehra is one of the most popular festival of this region.The Goncha festival is a Chariot festival for Lord Jagannath. It is celebrated on second day in bright fortnight of Ashad month. The different Chariot are made for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Subhadra.Haryali amavasya is celebrated in dark night of July. The festival marks the starting of sowing of seed.

All about Jagdalpur

Farmers worships their family god and goddess and ask them for a good agricultural production. Aama tihar – it is celebrated in the month of April–May, though the date is not fixed. On this day people offer mangoes to their deity, before which no one is allowed to eat mangoes in Bastar. Madai Festival is the local festival celebrated by the tribes of Kanker and Bastar regions to honour their local goddess goddess Kesharpal Kesharpalin Devi. It is celebrated from December to March every year. The uniqueness of the festival is that it travels in different parts of Chattisgarh.
